Virtualization can be used as an alternative approach for operating system installation and practical learning because it enables an operating system to run in a virtual environment without directly modifying the host operating system. This study aims to implement and evaluate the installation of Windows 8.1 64-bit in a virtual environment using Oracle VM VirtualBox. The study employed a descriptive practicum-based approach through direct observation of virtual machine creation, resource configuration, operating system installation, and basic system function testing. The virtual machine was configured with 4 GB of RAM, 2 virtual CPUs, and a 40 GB virtual hard disk using the VDI format with dynamically allocated storage. The implementation results showed that Windows 8.1 64-bit was successfully installed and booted normally. Testing of System Properties, File Explorer, Control Panel, and virtual storage access indicated that the basic system functions operated properly. The installation process took approximately 20 minutes on an ASUS VivoBook used as the host device. Based on the testing results, the implemented virtual machine configuration was able to support basic Windows 8.1 functionality. The results also indicate that Oracle VM VirtualBox can provide a flexible environment for learning operating system installation and configuration.
